PTFE or Teflon®, another plastic material that can be machined

The polytetrafluoroethylene, or better known as the trademark Teflon®, is a plastic material that we can also machine and which, due to its non-stick and sliding properties, is ideal in many applications, being one of the best known brands by people due to its use in kitchen utensils.

Teflon® properties

This material’s properties are basically due to the fact that teflon fluorine atoms create a kind of barrier that makes it difficult for chemical agents to attack the carbon structure of the material.

  • Teflon® has a low friction coefficient. Thanks to this, the materials that have to slide on its surface will do so very easily.

  • It is material inert and non-sticking. Thanks to this property, Teflon® becomes very resistant against the attack of countless chemicals. For this reason, it has a high resistance to ozone, concentrated and diluted acids and bases, hydrocarbons and organic solvents.

  • Supports extreme temperatures, having a medium melting point (approximately 340-350 ° C). Teflon® is a material that is handled between 260 and -240° C, without its physical properties being altered.

Due to these properties, Teflon® is a material with multiple applications:

  • In plumbing.

  • In bars, tubes, plates and sheets.

  • Automotive industry

  • Industrial belts

  • Non-stick pots and pans

  • Teflon® fabrics and meshes

  • Coated hoses

  • Also used in other applications such as sealing plates, printer rollers, textile rollers, dispensers, agitators, etc
